What Cheer to Have Two Local Elections

What Cheer will have two local elections next month - schold and city.

School election will be March 10. Polls will open at noon and will close at 7 p.m. Terms expiring are those of Dr. John Maxwell and John Newkirk.

Mr. Newkirk and Dr. Maxwell will seek reelection and their nominations have been filed.

Nominations must be filed before noon of the tenth day prior to the day of election. The tenth day before election is Feb. 28, little more than a week from now.

City election will be March 31, with march 15 as teh final date for filing of candidates with the city clerk. To be elected will be the mayor, five councilmen, treasurer, and assessor.


***Sheriff Names New Bailiff

Charles Bales has been appointed bailiff of the Keokuk county district court by Sheriff E. E. Tremmel. Mr. Bales takes the place of A.B. Cary, who has been bailiff since Mr. Tremmel was first elected sheriff.



Mr. and Mrs. Owen McDermott - a son, born Monday morning. Weight seven pounds.

Mr. and Mrs. Estelle Meyers - a daughter, Rose Marie, born Sunday. Weight 9 1/2 pounds.


Mrs. Guy Trusler has returned home from University hospital, Iowa City, where she was taken for an examination. She experienced extreme difficulty in breathing late last week when it was believed a peanut was lodged in her lung, and she was taken to the hospital for an x-ray. None was found, however, and it is believed that coughing removed the peanut. She is recovering from the effects of the unusual experience.
