Frederick L. Baze was born in Neudorf, Germany, on January 4th, 1829, and died at his home in this city on August 10th, 1905, at 7:00 a.m., aged 76 years, 7 months and 6 days.

On February 16, 1858, he was united in marriage to Miss Julia Gabert of Neudorf, Germany, and four years later they emigrated to America and settled in the state of Illinois.  In 1880, they removed to Keokuk county, Iowa and settled in the German settlement east of this city where they continuously resided until they removed to What Cheer.  Fifteen children were born to these parents, five of which, together with the aged wife and mother, live to mourn the loss of a kind and loving husband and father.  The children living are John Baze of Colon, Iowa, Fred Baze and Mrs. William Sonnenberg of White City, Iowa, Gus Baze of Osco, Illinois, and Mrs. Millie Kitzman of Cricketville, Iowa.

The funeral services were held at St. Martin's Lutheran church east of this city, on Saturday, August 12th at 10:30 a.m., conducted by Rev. F.J. Oehlert and the remains were interred in the German cemetery.
