River Valley Residential Services Moving

By Mary Gardner

Special to Boone Today

River Valley Residential Services is in the process of moving out of its building along Nature Road. At one time, plans were to close the building by July 1, then July 31 was hoped for as a closure date. However, finding suitable housing and services for residents has been time consuming. In addition, there was and is a lot of paper work involving Home and Community Based Services (HCBS), which will provide federal and Medicaid fund for the residents.

All but 12 residents had left the 388 Nature Road address by July 31, and the remainder are expected to have left within the month.

Terry Johnson, executive director of Genesis Development, Jefferson, was hired to fulfill the transition plan. He will serve as administrator of River Valley Residential Services until the end of September at which time the transition process will be reviewed.

Two floors of the Stoll Bottling Works building in teh 800 block of Allen Street in Boone have been leased for the administrative and staff offices of River Valley Services.

Approximately 40 to 50 people in the community will still be served by River Valley, and the transition may eventually involve a drop-in center and a meal site. There will probably be three homes with 24-hour supervision care if needed.

Johnson said he has been impressed with the dedication and professionalism of the staff of River Valley Residential Services. He said that because of the staff the transition to the community is and will be successful.
