Funeral Sunday for John G. Schlaser

John Schlaser, 60, died Friday at the home of his sister in What Cheer. Funeral was Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at the What Cheer Methodist church, with service by the Rev. David Barker. Burial was at Johnson cemetery.

Pallbearers were Reg Hermanstorpher, Tunis DeBont, George Harris, Carl Nimitz, Henry Milburn, and Harvey Vail.

John Gustave Schlaser, son of Gottlieb and Caroline Schlaser, was born on a farm 3 1/4 miles southwest of Keswick Jan. 22, 1883. He resided on the same farm all of his life until a few weeks ago when ill health caused him to give up the farm and he went to make his home with his sister, Mrs. Ida Beever, who cared for him.

John was one of eight children. One brother and one sister preceded him in death several years ago, and one brother, Will, died Feb. 7, 1943. He early united with the Keenersburg church, later joining the Keswick Methodist church.

He is survived by two brothers and two sisters, Herman Schlaser of Moscow, Idaho, Mrs. Ernestine Durbin of Curtiss, Wisc, Mrs. Ida Beever of What Cheer, Henry Schlaser of Delta; one niece, Mrs. Ella Craig of What Cheer who was raised from infancy in this home, and several other nieces and nephews.

January 22, 1883 - May 7, 1943.
