Robert “Bob” Dean Long, age 70, of Washington, Iowa died Sunday, January 16, 2011 at the United Presbyterian Home in Washington following declining health.

Celebration of life services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, January 19, 2011 at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home in Washington with Rev. Kitch Shatzer officiating. Visitation will begin at noon on Tuesday at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home where the family will gather and receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Masonic Lodge services will be held at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Private family inurnment will take place at the Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington. A general memorial has been established. Bob was born September 2, 1940 in Washington, Iowa the son of Paul Allen and Pauline (Snyder) Long. He graduated from Washington High School. Following high school Bob was in the United States Navy for a short time. On September 10, 1961 Bob was united in marriage to Beverly Baker in Washington, Iowa. They later divorced.

Bob worked for the Washington Community School District as a bus driver for many years. Previously he was a police officer for the City of Washington, Washington County Deputy Sheriff, a volunteer on the Washington Fire and Rescue, worked for Alliant Energy as a linesman and was employed at Hy-Vee. Bob was a member of the United Presbyterian Church, Washington Masonic Lodge #26 and KAABA Shrine. He enjoyed annual fishing trips, hunting, being a team bus driver on Ragbrai and following his grandchildren in their involvement on the Washington High School football and softball teams.

Bob is survived by his daughter, Lori Jaspering and husband Dean of Washington; three grandchildren, Jordan and Amber Jaspering of Pella; Tyler Jaspering of Washington; Chayse Jaspering of Washington; and one brother, Bill Long of Washington.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
