Donald D. Goodwin

February 7, 1932 - August 27, 2008

Donald D. Goodwin, 76, of Rock Island, Illinois, died Wednesday, August 27, 2008, in Trinity Pathway Hospice, Bettendorf, Iowa, after a two-year battle with genetic liver disease.

A memorial visitation was held September 2, 2008, in Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, Rock Island. A time of remembering followed the visitation. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to Trinity Pathway Hospice at Trinity at Terrace Park, Bettendorf.

Donald D. Goodwin was born in Wellman, Iowa, February 7, 1932, to John and Nellie Stillings Goodwin. He was united in marriage to Gretchen J. Struck of Clarion, Iowa, February 15, 1957. He was a graduate of Wellman High School and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in education from Iowa State Teachers College (now the University of Northern Iowa), a Master of Arts degree in education from the University of Iowa, and an Education Specialist degree from Western Illinois University. He also served nine years with the Iowa National Guard. Mr. Goodwin spent 32 years teaching and in elementary school administration, retiring as the principal of Audubon Elementary School in Rock Island. His hobbies included fishing, hunting, bridge, golfing, and traveling.


He is survived by his wife, Gretchen Goodwin; two children and their spouses, Steve (Leila) Goodwin, Fuquay-Varina, North Carolina; and Julie (Scott) Dahl, Rock Island; and grandsons, Jack Searle and Kody Dahl.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters; and six brothers.
