Gabbert Cemetery

The Gabbert Cemetery lies in the NE 1/4 of the NW 1/4 of Section 9, T. 77 N., R. 2 E. of the 5th P.M., Buffalo Township.  It is a family cemetery of which no records exist except that the surrounding property deed states that this 16' x 20' piece of ground must remain a cemetery.

1 - Gabbert:  Our Father/David Gabbert/ Died/ Jan 19, 1855/Aged 61 yrs. 10 m. 11 d.

2 - Gabbert:  Katharine/Wife of/David Gabbert/Died/Aug 16, 1846/Aged 45 yrs. 10 m. 11 d.

Following information from Mary Ann Bell, 2243 Monterrey Dr., Des Moines, Iowa 50322.  Her gr. gr. gr. gr. grandfather was David Gabbert.  David Gabbert was born on Feb. 10, 1793, in either Va. or Tenn.  He was the third of 16 children of Michael and Elizabeth (Brown) Gabbert.  He was married to Catherine Giles, place unknown.  Their children were Capt. William Gabbert, riverboat pilot.  Frank, who went to Oregan ca 1850.  Henry, Micael, Sarah (Mrs. Anthony) Myers, Celia (Mrs. Daniel) Barriman, Elizabeth (Mrs. Calvin) Burt, and Nancy Ellen (Mrs. Samuel) Vannatta.  David died January 19, 1855, and is supposed to be buried on his farm, also his mother.  They both died of smallpox.  Mary Ann had been told that David had a stone, but his mother didn't.
